Each one wants to guard themselves, their home, and their family from the damage that a thief can do if they were to smash into your house, which can include physical and emotional trouble too.

Use timers to turn lights, TVs, and sound systems on and off at different times to give your house that lived in look when you’re away from home. Install motion detecting outside floodlights around your house, but be certain to don’t forget to mount them high enough to stop intruders from disabling them. If you are fortunate enough to have a Neighborhood Watch Program in your community, then by all means join it. If there’s not, then get along with your neighbors and start one.

Report any suspicious people or automobiles around your area to your local police, and by all means get to know your neighbors. If you have aged or incapacitated mates or family, then check to make certain their security devices are all in good working order.

Some thieves will scan papers for marriage and funeral reports and special community and vacation events that might take you out of your house, so be particularly careful on these occasions.

don’t let mail, papers or fliers amass whilst you are away, because this may tip off wise guys. Have the post office hold mail, have newspapers postponed, and have a neighbor or friend clear away fliers. To a thief, an empty trash can may mean that you are away. So, keep some trash available, and consider asking a neighbor to set out trash for pick up at your place. Do not leave property in sight thru windows where they will lure thieves.

Use an etching pen to mark an ID number, like your driver’s license number, on all property. Make a stockpile of valuables in your household and store it somewhere aside from your house,eg in a safe deposit box. Leave curtains a little parted so your place does not have an empty look. Never open the doorway to a stranger. Install peepholes in all exterior doorways so you can identify whoever is outside. Don’t depend on a doorway safety chain, because these can be damaged easily.

Ask for I.D. From service delegates who come to your house, and if they don’t have it, then check with their company to verify identity before letting them in. If you are planning to leave, then be cautious whom you tell.

When holidaying, leave an auto in your drive or arrange for a neighbor to keep an auto there and move it around from time to time. Have somebody mow your lawn, rake leaves and shovel snow whilst you are away too.

Prune overgrown trees and plants to dump hiding places for intruders. A lot of garage doorway openers make a response to common codes, so follow the maker’s instructions to program yours with a completely unique code no thief’s opener will match. Keep your garage doorway locked at all times, ideally with a deadbolt lock.

Burglars always look in mailboxes, under mats and above entrances for keys. Do not make it easy for them to get into your house. Don’t put your name or address on your key ring, as it might lead a burglar right to your doorway with key in hand.
